Our School Ethos and its Christian Context
Our school is a small school for children aged between seven and eleven years, set in the heart of Long Ditton.
Our school motto reads ‘Our School – Our Community’ and we are proud of the connection we have with the people of Long Ditton, and beyond. We are linked to a school in Uganda and have completed teacher exchange programmes and provided financial support for the Kaladima P7 children’s education too. This ensures that our children know more about the local and global communities and that they learn how to be good citizens in both.
As a voluntary aided school we enjoy very close links with St Mary’s Church, Long Ditton and also the Diocese of Guildford. This really does add a further dimension to both the education and the rationale for all that we do at LDSM. The Rector takes assembly on a weekly basis and is also a member of the Governing Body of the school.
We aim to maximise the academic potential of every child as well as meet their pastoral needs. We seek to instil confidence in our children and give them belief in themselves to make good choices, both now and in the future. Each pupil at LDSM is valued as an individual.
We have also embedded a values curriculum that drives our assembly themes and also works in the classroom. These themes, such as Respect, Responsibility and Hope, transcend all religious and cultural barriers and are applicable to all. We also promote these themes through the school newsletter and suggest ways that they could be applied outside of school and in the home environment.
We have coined the phrase ‘LDSM Proud’ to describe our sense of community, the smartness of our appearance, the quality of our work and how we conduct ourselves when representing the school at sporting events and other special occasions.
I hope you enjoy finding out more about LDSM through our website.
